How about balance? By that I mean leveraging instant gratification to help ease the burden of future gratification. A cheat meal once a week is recommended for those on a diet, and a couple of hours of Netflix may be welcome after a whole day slogging away at writing your book. I think also that even the successful are guilty of indulging on the occasional hedonism.
