I suggest that the idea of the war between reason and emotion has been discredited by the latest affective neuroscience. There is no such division between the two. We have to distinguish between automatically generated affect in the subconscious and consciously constructed emotion. To be certain there is a struggle but it’s not between emotion and reason, it’s between subconscious and conscious cognition. Every emotion is infused with thought and every thought is influenced or downright driven by affect.
