I think there’s a contradiction in this paragraph. If you study the incentive salience (sensitization) theory, you’ll recognize the distinction between WANTING vs LIKING. While dopamine powers WANTING (reward anticipation) it’s not involved with the LIKING (reward acquisition or having). As an example, you may experience in a dopamine surge while waiting to exercise, but each time you do, you’ll experience rewarding endorphins or brain derived neurotrophic factors (BNDF). The key to happiness isn’t too focus on the emotional experience, but to do those things that are objectively instrumental to well-being, and then pleasure will most likely follow.
