People very often do what others consider to be degrading for financial or social benefit, if not psychological. As they pursue their hedonistic goals, they don’t always do what’s in their interest. It doesn’t automatically follow though that they are being ‘forced’.

No. We don’t all ‘have universally recognized standards’. We may have universally moral principles, but that doesn’t mean the same values, or standards.
