Is Magnesium Glycinate the Wonder Supplement for Refreshing Sleep?
As I’ve mentioned quite a few times, I revel in bio-hacking. Basically, what that means is that I manipulate the levels of my biochemistry; hormones, neurotransmitters etc., to optimize my mood, drive and energy.
A few months ago, I had a massive plate of Crain Crain, and fufu for dinner, and noticed the next morning that my sleep had been super refreshing. I’ve made it a happy to be aware of the effect of nutrition on my psychological state.
After some research via Google, and ChatGPT, and certainly with the counsel of my dear friend Elsie Halima, I learned that Crain Crain was rich in Magnesium. I discovered that Magnesium Glycinate in particular was optimal for sleep. So I started taking 200mg at bedtime. Lo and behold, the supplement worked like a dream.
I had also previously experimented with a glass of tart cherry juice as a sleep aid, so I added that to the mix. It worked to enhance the quality of my sleep even further.
There was a problem though: I’m prone to acid reflux and tart cherry juice is particularly acidic. I thought it was the melatonin content that helped me sleep, so I tried taking a supplement instead. Unfortunately it interfered with my mood. So I went back to chatGPT, and after some brainstorming, I discovered that tart cherry juice ALSO had magnesium.
So instead of taking melatonin (2.5mg), I doubled my magnesium intake. The result was even more refreshing sleep, plus waking up two hours earlier than normal with enough energy to go straight to the gym.
Now, I do have to monitor the magnesium levels in my blood, and I’ll certainly do so. At the moment though I’m enjoying the benefits of excellent mental energy and stamina, and also experiencing deeper levels of euphoria, flow and a desire to spend more time praying and meditating.
I hope you all have an excellent Tuesday!
