Is the good of a domestic partnership essentially an amalgam of various goods such as friendship, sex, procreation, household labor, fiscal contribution etc. each of which can be independently outsourced? Or is it a distinct, autonomous, irreducible value in its own right?

What would my life be like — how much could I thrive — if I had, say, somebody to buy groceries, take care of important phone calls when I was busy, have a meal waiting at the end of the day, help clean the apartment? Someone to split expenses, so I wasn’t choked by the grad student stipend? Somebody to drop me off or pick me up on campus, thus allowing me to skip all the inconvenience and time-wasting of public transit?
