I’ve personally never “asked” anyone to pay me for any blog I’ve written, nor have I, nor will ever ask “to be bought coffee”. However, I see nothing intrinsically wrong with those that do. I for one, do not look down on beggars or the homeless, and I’m happy to compensate street buskers when I see them offering a service like singing or playing a musical instrument, while asking for money.
When someone writes an article, and asks to be compensated, I see no difference in essence between that and someone publishing a book on Amazon and asking to be paid. It’s a simple “invitation to treat” which the reader has the right to decline.
With all due respect, the tone of your article is condescending and judgmental. You don’t know the financial status or needs of the writers that feel they need to request compensation. You’re entitled to the moral obligations you make, but perhaps you are not the Gold Standard, and you ought not to try to shame others into compliance.
