Let’s try to define what we mean by ‘dating’, because as far as I know FWB’s also go on dates. I think the difference here is there’s a lack of clarity on what the goal for the relationship is. Traditionally, girlfriend and boyfriend dated with the goal of eventually getting married. FWB’s focus on the exchange of benefits. I didn’t see any mention of a mutual interest in exclusivity, so perhaps the couple should just enjoy the transactional nature of their relationship and continue with the friendship when sex is off the table.
