One of the best articles on dopamine I’ve read that makes the distinction between the reward prediction error vs incentive sensitization theories is by Maia Svalavitz, and its called “Dopamine the Currency of Desire”. It gives a great breakdown on how dopaminergic neurons signal value and create “wanting” (reward anticipation) vs “liking” (reward appreciation and the actual experience of pleasure).
