Perhaps it’s even more recursively frustrating than that; we are trying to use consciousness to measure consciousness. Did you ever read Sophie’s World? It’s a brilliant book showing how the characters of the story could not possibly know that they were in a book. They’d have to be outside of the book to observe their character, but then they’d no longer be in the book to observe. 😆
