Thanks for sharing! EI is a powerful and essential concept. The latest neuroscience sheds important light on emotions particularly in challenging the classical view on which EI is built. A competing constructionist paradigm disputes the notion that emotions exist objectively and declares that they are subjective constructs.
Goleman coined the phrase “neural hijacking”. This is a total eclipse of conscious cognition and is the Achilles heel of all EI practitioners. I think the holy grail would be for us to finally be able to mitigate against the amygdala surrendering our reason to raw feelings such as lust, anger and intense sadness.
