Thanks much! I finished reading CS Lewis chapter on Friendship in his book THE FOUR LOVES. I came across your article after doing a Google search for “friendship vs acquaintance.”

Another interesting distinction is between friendship vs partnership. What I find is so beautiful about friendship is that while there’s a mutually reasonable expectation of loyalty, it’s not the same as in a partnership where there’s a claim: rights and obligations. Friendship is THE relationship that’s not transactional, and value is exchanged exclusively as an unconditional gift.
