That’s a very good question. I wonder what blacks people would have done if the love interest cast against the black Panther had been white. We have to be careful though with “identity politics,” because I don’t think this is a black vs white issue. Last year, a large number of African Americans boycotted the movie Harriet Tubman because the lead nominated for an Oscar was Black British. Yet African Americans typically cast their own for the lead character in movies set in Africa! I didn’t hear about Africans feeling offended. Think Black Panther, Steve Biko, Nelson Mandela. It seems that the outcry #oscarssowhite was really about oscars not being African AMERICAN enough!
