The fundamental point I’d make is that religion is NOT a moral system, it’s a legislative one. Morality IMO implies that parties equally, intentionally and unanimously enter into an agreement to gain net value. Religion by definition is hierarchical, and coercive; this is why your subject is in mental torment over not doing what was legally binding by “God.”
