The paragraph isn’t about whether sound exists, it’s about the role of the brain in constructing the sound. Without a brain and an ear to convert the vibrations, there is no sound only vibrations. If I was to ask “if there’s a steak in the kitchen, and there’s no one one there to taste it, does it make a taste?”, would you reply yes?
