There are also first responders that risk their lives for complete strangers, the Ukrainian soldiers and civilians willing to die for their land, the soldier who throws herself on a hand grenade to save others. Why we value what we value, and believe what we believe is a mystery as impermeable as consciousness. It’s just not true that the “right goal” by which all other values are evaluated should be one’s life.
