This is true for the minority of our reactions as per incentive salience theory. The brain isn’t reactionary, it’s predictive. Most of our reactions, perhaps up to 90% happen from the no consciousness and neural/amgydala hijacking takes over. The neocortical conscious interception of our emotions never gets to happen, because this process is hijacked and bypassed.
