You raise very valid concerns, but I don’t think the problem is in the “technique,” whether the approach is made in-person or online, it comes down to the motives, character and intentions of the suitor. I do see though, that there’s a tendency to treat the genders as a monolithic collective, and that doesn’t cater for individual fears, and preferences.
