You’ve just defined a healthy friendship. The best friendships are devoid of obligations yet succeed because the parties voluntarily commit. The friend is an “end in itself” rather than primarily a “means to an end”. Modern love relationships come with so many ill defined expectations that we conflate with our partners obligations. No wonder there’s such a communication vacuum.
